LEISURE and Resorts World Corp. (LRWC) said it will open its resort-hotel in Boracay by 2021 as scheduled, but the timing of construction may not push through this year.
Katrina Nepomuceno, LRWC vice president, said activities remain on schedule despite the closure of the island as ordered by President Duterte, and gives the company time to complete necessary items on running a resort, including the master plan for the 23-hectare area.
Nepomuceno, however, said there is still no definite timetable for the components of the resort.
“To minimize the resort’s impact and preserve the area’s natural beauty, the property will be constructed following the contours of the site with lots of open spaces and lush landscaping. In addition, the resort will be designed to provide ample space for all the comforts, luxuries and activities for each family member. To do this, project proponents are committed to maintain a low-density development,” Nepomuceno said.
The company earlier said the $500-million integrated gaming resort will redefine the standards of luxury resorts in the country with bulk of its gross floor area allocated for premium hotel rooms and other amenities like wellness centers, bars, lounges and fine-dining restaurants.
At least three hotels are being eyed for the property when it opens, but Nepomuceno said the company has yet to decide on the brand.
She said the company is currently awaiting the result of surveys on the land it acquired to fit the necessary features into the master plan.
She said the development, however, will be a low-density development with many open spaces.
“Some of it are for expansion later,” she said.
LRWC and its partner for the project, Galaxy Entertainment Group, are expected to leverage on Galaxy’s database of clients across the region and the rest of Asia for the business.
