SPANISH infrastructure holdings company Acciona Construccion SA sees a “great potential” in the Philippine construction market, eyeing the design and build contracts of some of the deals in the Duterte administration’s infrastructure thrust.
Acciona Construccion Southeast Asia Director Ruben Camba said his group is interested in vying in for several infrastructure and energy deals after bagging the P22.6-billion contract to design and build the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway this year.
“The group is composed of two main pillars: renewable energy and infrastructure,” Camba said. “So for both businesses we are looking forward to start in the Philippines.”
He added that deals for water, bridge, tunnel, highways and solar energy and wind energy are the ones his group is most interested in.
“Since the last year we have been looking at projects of railway in Manila and Batangas,” he said. “We are looking at the LRT [Light Rail Transit] 6, and the future bridges that will be going to connect the islands and tunnel projects in Metro Manila.”
Camba was referring to the LRT Line 6, which is envisioned as railway system that will connect Metro Manila and Dasmariñas, Cavite.
“We think the potential of the city of Manila and the country is huge. In Mindanao there is a big railway development. I think Visayas region has a potential to grow,” he added.
Today his group holds concessions for the construction of deals worth $600 million. This includes its first project in the Philippines, the Putatan 2 Drinking Water Treatment Plant, which it bagged in 2016.
