THE Chungnam Provincial Police Agency (CPPA) in South Korea has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Central Visayas on Tuesday for the safety of its citizens here.
Senior Supt. Gen. Kim Jae-won, CPPA commissioner, and his staff met with PRO 7 director Police Chief Supt. Jose Espino, for the signing of the agreement.
The MOU between the PRO 7 and the visiting Korean police officials intends to renew their commitment to continue sharing best practices.
“We wish that this meeting, this visit will become the basis of both the safety of the Koreans and the Filipinos,” Kim said.
The agreement said both agencies shall sustain and continuously support the programs and projects established like the police-liaison desk, Korean language training, bilateral information exchange and exchange visits, among others.
In addition, both agencies shall conduct activities that will further promote and enhance the friendly relations, cooperation, mutual respect and benefit for both countries.
The partnership started in 2005, which aims to highlight both agencies’ best practices.
Kim said the friendship that stemmed from the shared history must be continued in modern times by learning the ways of improving security and safety of Koreans staying in the region. He added the Korean police recognized the vigor of South Korea to the Philippines in terms of trading, economy and culture.
Espino said the Korean police will be here for three days to observe the operational system of the Central Visayas police by visiting different police stations.
“They will study how we created our Korean desk to help their citizens here in Cebu for them to have a safe and peaceful visit in our provinces. They will also view how we work, particularly in preserving our peace and order,” Espino added.
