Kaya Makati and Global Cebu settled for a goalless drew after an intense and well-fought duel in the Philippines Football League (PFL) on Saturday night at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
Both sides were eager to get their winning ways back and played with intensity all throughout, only to find themselves failing to find the back of the net.
Kaya and Global remained tied at second place with similar 29 points with Makati holding an edge on goal difference.
The Cebuanos did a good job at stopping Kaya’s leading scorers Jordan Mintah and Robert Lopez Mendy, who had several chances for potential match-clinchers.
“I think Kaya came here to be very compact. They defended in their half and they were looking for the counter because of the two strikers,” said Global Head Coach Akbar Nawas, referring to Mintah and Mendy.
The draw was the second straight for Kaya, which settled for a 2-2 result with JPV Marikina last Wednesday. But its Head Coach, Noel Marcaida, remained optimistic of his squad.
“It was a really entertaining game—very exciting, the adrenaline was always high,” Marcaida said. “We played quality football from start to finish. I think the way Kaya performed, we deserved the three points. It was really a collective effort from my players. They played really well.”
Kaya’s goalkeeper Ref Cuaresma was named Man of the Match.
