CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan—The provincial government of Bulacan (PGB) headed by Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando offered on Wednesday the annual “Bulacan Day of Prayer”, dubbed as “Peace for the Philippines”, at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city.
Sy-Alvarado and Fernando led the turnover of a ceremonial check amounting to P4 million and 4,000 boxes of relief goods worth P4 million to Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana as a donation to the Islamic City of Marawi.
They were joined by Presidential Spokesman and Secretary Ernesto C. Abella; Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II; Lorenzana; Maj. Gen. Angelito de Leon, the commander of the 7th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army; other officials; and guests.
The P4-million cash donation and the P4 million worth of family packs that include rice, noodles, canned goods, milk and other items came from the provincial government of Bulacan and the voluntary contributions of Bulakenyos.
Both Sy-Alvarado and Fernando called on the faithful to continue to pray for peace.
The governor said peace does not only depend on the forte of the Armed Forces of Philippines and in the growth of the economy but in the power of the prayer of the people
of God.
Lorenzana expressed his gratitude to the people of Bulacan for the donations that will be delivered to the victims of the Marawi siege.
He said such efforts should be emulated by other provinces in the country.
When SuperTyphoon Yolanda hit Eastern Visayas in 2013, Bulacan sent a 100-man team composed of relief and medical workers to distribute relief goods and give medical assistance to the typhoon victims.
The PGB also gave aid to the Yolanda-devastated communities and victims in Tacloban and other parts of Eastern Visayas and Cagayan and Isabela provinces, badly hit by Typhoon Lawin.
