IMPRESSIVE in its first game, Flying V seeks to continue its winning ways against the veteran core of Gamboa Coffee Mix in the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League Foundation Cup today at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Jeron Teng and the rest of the Thunder announced their entry in the league as they turned back Cignal HD, 86-84, in their conference-opener two weeks ago.
But for Coach Eric Altamirano, he believes that as huge of a boost that first game was, it was just one game.
“We’re still a work-in-progress. We have to keep what we’ve been doing right and we can’t overlook anybody this season,” he said.
And the mentor has the right state of mind going up against the Coffee Lovers, which showed its veteran know-hows despite being together for only a short time as they pulled off a come-from-behind 85-84 win over Zark’s Burger back in opening day.
Playing-coach Leo Avenido noted that it will always be the case for Gamboa as it will brace against younger and more hungry foes in the coming games.
Flying V and Gamboa clash in the early 10 a.m. tip-off, followed by the 12 noon match between Cignal HD and Zark’s Burger.
Hawkeyes Coach Boyet Fernandez is on his third game in four game days and is hopeful that fatigue has yet to catch up on his crew, especially against the dangerous Jawbreakers.
“We’re on a sprint this first few weeks, but I’m confident naman on my boys against Zark’s. They have a strong team led by Robby Celiz and they are playing well, so we just have to be ready for them,” he said.
