NATIONAL University (NU) flexed just enough muscle in beating a young Adamson University side, 25-15, 25-22, 25-19, to remain unscathed in Season 79 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s volleyball action on Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
The 6-foot-5 Jaja Santiago was in her usual elements and finished with 15 points. But she showed another facet of her game from the service area where she erupted with seven aces.
Setter Jasmine Nabor only played in the first two sets so as not to aggravate a seemingly harmless tumor in her knee but still paced the team with 29 excellent sets. Aiko Urdas and Jorelle Singh had eight and seven points, respectively.
“I am convinced with their game but I want them to eliminate their tendency to relax,” NU Head Coach Roger Gorayeb said.
The victory, the third straight was a fitting follow-up to the Lady Falcons’ 25-17, 25-13, 19-25, 29-27 whipping of Ateneo last week. Defending champion De La Salle and University of the Philippines won on Saturday for 2-0 records at second place.
In men’s action, “three-peat-seeking” Ateneo also got its third-straight win at the expense of Far Eastern University, 25-18, 25-15, 25-19.
