Nexperia exits as chips-maker
DUTCH firm Nexperia SRL announced on February 8 the formal completion of its launch as an entity separate from NXP Semiconductors N.V. headquartered in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and backed by a consortium of financial investors consisting of Beijing Jianguang Asset Management Co. Ltd. and Wise Road Capital Ltd., Nexperia is a stand-alone firm focused on discrete and logic semiconductor chips and metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors. Nexperia said it will produce around 85 billion devices a year. The automotive sector is very strong for Nexperia, the company said. Samsung, U.P. Diliman launch Smart classroom
SAMSUNG Electronics Philippines Corp. (Sepco) and the University of the Philippines-Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (UP-EEEI) recently launched the latest Samsung SMART classroom in UP Diliman. “This partnership reinforces Samsung’s commitment in promoting quality education and youth empowerment in the country,” Sepco said in a statement. The company said it provided the UP-EEEI with smartphones and virtual-reality headset “to enable students raise the bar in virtual reality development and experience”. Lenovo rolls out new device model
LENOVO Corp. recently launched mobile device it calls the “A6600 Plus”. In a statement, the company said the device is positioned for prospective buyers of smartphones at a specific price point. The device features a 64-bit 6735p quad-core 1.0GHz processor and 2GB RAM. It is preinstalled with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and has a 5-inch display with 800:1 contrast ratio. The device has a 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with flash. It has an expandable memory and 16 gigabytes internal storage. Fortinet extends security fabric protection into IoT
FORTINET Inc. announced on February 2 the extension of its solution called “Fortinet Security Fabric” (FSF). The company claims a security fabric is necessary to defend against the massive volume and scale of the Internet of Things (IoT). “Recent IoT-based attacks have revealed the sheer volume and ease by which billions of devices can be weaponized and used to disrupt the digital economies of entire countries and millions of users,” the company said. “These issues are compounded by the lack of basic security features and management capabilities in many IoT devices.” This is a major challenge for enterprises today that data needs to remain secure as it traverses many types of devices and environments, from tablets to cloud applications. HGS, Avaya expand deal
BUSINESS process outsourcing (BPO) provider Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS) Inc. has expanded its partnership collaboration with Avaya Inc. to provide a high performance contact center platform for its international customers. In a statement, HGS claims the enhancement “will bring further cost savings and service improvements for 10,000 voice based contact center seats that serve customers in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific.” Today HGS can set up new contact center operations for clients at 30-percent lower cost of technology. Avaya’s open technology enables HGS to help customers integrate the contact center with their existing customer relationship management platform, call recording or interactive voice response systems.
