MAYBANK, Southeast Asia’s fourth-largest bank, and Powerman Philippines have partnered together to bring the biggest and only international duathlon event to the Philippines in December this year.
The Maybank Powerman Philippines World Series is set on Saturday and Sunday at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga. Powerman Philippines is the local affiliate of the International Powerman Association (IPA).
Ten professional duathletes from across the globe—including two-time world champion and Powerman Philippines Ambassador Gael Le Bellec, three-time titlist Emma Pooley and defending champion Seppe Odeyn—have confirmed their participation in the event.
Powerman has been held annually for the last 27 years in 30 different countries. For the first time, the Maybank Powerman Philippines World Series will be a qualifying race for the Powerman Duathlon World Championships in Zofingen, Switzerland, in 2017.
“Maybank welcomes this partnership with Powerman Philippines,” Pollie Sim, CEO International of Maybank Group, said. “This is a milestone for Maybank as it is the first time that the group is in support of an endurance sports event.”
“The inclusion of Maybank definitely adds prestige to the two Powerman events this year,” said Owen Gan, president of Powerman Philippines. “Being one of the largest banks in Southeast Asia, Maybank will definitely help Powerman gain popularity in the Philippines, and eventually in the region, especially now that there are more Powerman events lined up for 2017.”
The partnership covers two duathlon events this year. The first was the Anytime Fitness Powerman Philippines Asian Invitational held earlier this month at the SM Mall of Asia by the Bay.
