100 NGO leaders in Asean convene in Mactan, Cebu, on Nov. 16-19

OVER 100 young non-governmental organization (NGO) leaders representing more than 75 groups across the Asean region will convene in Mactan, Cebu, for the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (Ysseali) Generation: Go NGO! workshop from November 16 to 19 2016.

US Ambassador to Asean Nina Hachigian will open the event on November 16 at a reception showcasing the cultural heritage of Asean participants’ home nations.   Yseali Generation: Go NGO! is a four-day workshop funded by the US Embassy in the Philippines in partnership with Cultural Vistas.  It brings together nonprofit leaders from all 10 Asean nations to learn how to strengthen their organizations, craft their messages, broaden their support and achieve greater impact.

Combining training, simulations and discussions with NGO leaders from around the region and the United States, the Yseali Generation: Go NGO! workshop provides young Asean leaders with the tools to advance their NGO careers, build an regional network and strengthen their civil-society organizations in their home nations.

Launched in 2013, the Yseali is the US government’s signature program to strengthen leadership development and networking in Southeast Asia.  Through a variety of programs and engagements, Yseali seeks to build the leadership capabilities of youth in the region, strengthen ties between the US and Southeast Asia, and nurture an Asean community of leaders who can work across borders to address common challenges.

The Yseali Generation: Go NGO! workshop is one of several in the regional workshops focused on the four themes—the environment and natural resources management, economic development, civic engagement and education.

Upcoming Yseali regional programs include workshops on eco-entrepreneurship (Brunei Darussalam, February 2017) environmental conservation (Coron, Palawan, March 2017) and urban planning and smart growth (Singapore, May 2017).
