THE Philippines can be a leader in the use of supply-chain technologies in the Southeast Asian (SEA) region.
In a recent interview with the BusinessMirror, AEB Asia Pacific Ltd. General Manager Frans Kok said the country “offers excellent opportunities for growth because of its openness in embracing new technologies and a big young population who can speak fluent English.”
“The Philippines can take a leading position in SEA, especially when the Asean Economic Cooperation [AEC] comes into full swing,” Kok said. “I think Filipino companies should focus on agility and speed of implementation. The economic union offers a lot of opportunities to work with other countries.”
In general, Kok said he believes Philippine enterprises are open to the use new technologies.
However, as one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia, Kok said the country is also facing several challenges, such as an infrastructure backlog and a growing population. He said these also offer windows of opportunity for companies to offer the appropriate solutions to these problems.
“If the government addresses these issues, technologies can come into the picture and help the agencies a lot in solving these problems,” he said.
In the supply-chain management market, Kok claims that his company can respond to the needs of the market for leading-edge SCM products. “We can provide full suite of products for supply chain requirements.”
Since it is a growing market, Kok noted new technologies, such as automated warehousing can be added to the supply-chain market to improve productivity and workspace.
“We also see the need for a collaboration platform that allows business units to share information and resources to achieve efficiency.”
