BACOLOD CITY—More dairy workers in Negros Occidental are undergoing training with the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) for employment in the dairy industries of Japan and New Zealand.
At present, the PVO, through the Provincial Livestock and Breeding Center in Barangay La Granja, La Carlota City, is training six dairy workers for deployment to New Zealand. Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said the trainees are qualified to apply for jobs in the two countries, which have high demand for Filipino dairy workers.
Decena noted that the dairy project of the province at the government-run farm facility in La Carlota City is being recognized by companies in Japan and New Zealand.
“Because of the facility and strong agritourism initiatives of the province, we continue to be a training provider for potential dairy workers in Japan and New Zealand,” Decena said. Since the program started six years ago, Negros Occidental has already sent about 20 dairy workers to the two countries.
The dairy workers undergo training on land preparation, pasture development and milking for two months, then spend four months more as volunteers.
After six months of training in Negros Occidental, they will undergo six weeks to three months of training in New Zealand, which is part of the immigration requirement, Decena said.
Trainees, who are preferably with background in animal husbandry and agriculture, are paying the PVO P80 per day as training fee.
Once hired in New Zealand, they are entitled to a monthly salary of not less than P90,000 a month.
