CITING data by the International Data Corp. (IDC), Lenovo Group Ltd. is positioning its two new personal computers (PCs) in the gaming industry. Lenovo said in a statement it is leveraging “on the renewed interest of serious gamers” in its release of its gaming PCs in two form factors: the all-in-one ideacentre AIO 700 PC and the ideapad Y700 laptop.
Citing a study released by IDC in January, Lenovo said the number of PC gamers will spike to 700 million by 2019. Total revenue in high-end gaming PCs alongside all-in-one PCs is expected to grow by nearly 5 percent annually despite the 10.6-percent decline in PC shipments during the fourth quarter of last year.
In a statement dated May 19, IDC said overall PC shipment for the first quarter stood at 1.99 million units. This figure represents a quarter-on-quarter decline of 20.8 percent over the fourth quarter of last year and a year-on-year decline of 7.8 percent over the first quarter of 2015. According to Lenovo, it believes the interest of many gamers has been piqued with the release of the latest Windows 10 Home Operating System. “This update in Windows is largely being accepted by users because of the much-improved features.”
“The company is strongly committed to developing products designed both for productivity and entertainment,” Michael Ngan, Lenovo Philippines Inc. country general manager, was quoted in a statement as saying.
The ideacentre AIO 700 starts at P69,990 ($1,495.79 at $0.021=P1), while the Y700 starts at P69,995 ($1,495.90).
