THE Immaculate Conception Parish in Marikina is giving away 250 bags of school supplies for less- fortunate schoolchildren in Barcelona, a coastal town in Sorsogon.
Each bag holds learning tools, like pencil, ball pen, eraser, ruler, scissors, notebook and pad paper, Elizardo Nerecina Jr., a parish worker, said in an interview on May 11. The school supplies were raised from charitable parishioners and nonparishioners who advocate for the education of poor kids, Nerecina said.
Fr. Dari Dioquino, the assistant parish priest, entrusted the distribution of the school goods to the recipients through Barcelona National Comprehensive High School (BNCHS) alumni Class of 1992.
On May 11 BNCHS alumni Class of 1992 President Gilbert Atienza inspected the school bags at the Immaculate Conception Parish.
Atienza’s class will transport the goods to Barcelona. The group plans to distribute the donation to recipients in Barcelona town’s 25 barangays prior the opening of classes in June.
Members of the BNCHS alumni Class of 1992 in their online forum expressed gratitude over the generosity of people who donated the school supplies. They also thanked the Immaculate Conception Parish and Father Dioquino for choosing the town’s less fortunate school kids. The town was ravaged by Typhoon Nona last December.Father Dioquino was assigned to the Immaculate Conception parish in November 2015, following over 10 years as priest-in-charge of Kanlungan ni Maria Home for the Aged in Antipolo. He started the drive to collect school supplies for Barcelona’s poor schoolchildren late last year. In a phone interview, Dioquino said he is also sharing donated school goods to less fortunate kids in the remote parts of Quezon and Laguna.
