ZAMBOANGA CITY—The national government has allocated P3 million to construct 50 temporary housing units for families who were among those displaced in the 21-day September 2013 siege.
Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the single-detached housing units will be constructed in Sitio Lupa-Lupa, Barangay Rio Hondo, to ensure better living conditions for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) temporarily staying in the area.
“The single-detached houses to be constructed are temporary shelters where the IDPs will stay while waiting for the completion of their permanent houses,” Salazar said.
She added that based on records, there are 175 families consisting of 814 individuals that are staying in Sitio Lupa-Lupa, Barangay Rio Hondo.
Climaco added that the IDPs are to be transferred to their permanent shelters in Valle Vista in Barangay Kasanyangan. A septage system, water and electrical connections will also be installed in Sitio Lupa-Lupa.
