CLARK FREEPORT—Uniqlo, Japan’s leading specialty retailer, which has global sales of $11.62 billion, is opening at least 200 outlets in the country by 2020.
Uniqlo Philippines COO Katsumi Kubota said this when he was interviewed at the SM City Clark during the third anniversary of the global retail brand. It started with five branches three years ago and now has 23 stores, two of which are in Pampanga.
Kubota said it was the owner of Uniqlo who bared their planned aggressive expansion to President Aquino. They met in Tokyo, Japan, during the President’s recent official visit.
“We got more than we expected. Business is good,” Kubota said when asked about their overall sales in the country since they opened in 2012.
Kubota cited the huge and growing local market and the country’s population of 100 million as the driving force behind the planned expansion of the retail stores.
He described as “important” their market in North and Central Luzon. He was referring to their outlets in SM City Pampanga and SM City Clark, both in Pampanga; and SM City Rosales in Pangasinan.
Kubota said they are planning to open a branch at the SM City Cabanatuan, which is set open in September 2015.
On July 30 Uniqlo celebrated its third year in the Philippines by treating shoppers to the “Northern Uniqlo Anniversary Sale,” where it will be offering amazing discounts as a form of giving thanks to Filipino shoppers for their continued support. The special sale runs until August 2.
All roads lead to five Uniqlo stores in SM Fairview, SM North Edsa, SM City Rosales, SM Pampanga and SM City Clark.
“The Philippines continues to be an exciting market for Uniqlo. For our third anniversary, we are delighted to participate in the ‘Great Northern Sale’ this year. We enjoin everyone to take part in our ‘Northern Uniqlo Anniversary Sale’ and enjoy Uniqlo’s best deals and offerings at a limited time,” said Shuhei Yamada, Uniqlo Pampanga area manager.
During the launch of the “Northern Uniqlo Anniversary Sale” in SM City Clark, Uniqlo unveiled their newest line of innovative denim jeans via a special sneak peek. Hitting Uniqlo stores very soon, Uniqlo’s new denim jeans perfectly mix aesthetic quality with advanced clothing technology “to give Pinoy consumers their best pair yet.”
Uniqlo is offering four new denim jeans: Miracle Air Skinny Fit Jeans, Ultra Stretch Jeans, Smart Shape Jeans and Stretch Selvedge Slim Fit Jeans, which will be made available nationwide starting on August 3.
“By understanding the everyday need of our consumers, we are introducing Uniqlo’s high-quality denim jeans,” Yamada said. “We have opened a new page in the history of jeans as we partnered with the world’s best denim manufacturer, Kaihara, to elevate everyday movement.”
