DE LA SALLE suffered a major blow to its uphill climb to the University Athletic Assocation of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 77 women’s volleyball title as skipper Ara Galang was diagnosed with multiple ligament tears in her left knee late Saturday night.
The BusinessMirror learned that De La Salle’s leading scorer suffered multiple tears to her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL) and suffered a big bone bruise.
The report came at the worst possible time for the Lady Green Spikers, as they are less than three days away from their third consecutive title showdown against Ateneo de Manila at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Galang, the Rookie of the Year in 2012 and Most Valuable Player in 2013, landed awkwardly after scoring a point late in their do-or-die semifinal match against National University last Saturday. De La Salle won, 26-24, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21.
The injury is expected to sideline Galang for eight months.
