TAGUM City Mayor Allan Rellon on Monday gave monetary rewards to two security guards who fought off robbers who attempted to break into a pawnshop on Sunday.
The mayor visited the robbed pawnshop and handed out reward money to the two security guards during the event.
Rellon said that the city police has already filed a case against one of the robbers who was recognized in the pawnshop’s closed-circuit television camera record.
He added the robbers, who were able to escape on two motorcycles, are not from Tagum City but outsiders as proven by the fact that they spoke Tagalog when they made the heist. On Sunday the robbers barged into the pawnshop on Pioneer Street at the city’s downtown, just a minute of walk from the City Hall and immediately disarmed one security guard.
The two then broke the glass covering of display stands and took three trays of jewelry worth about P700,000.
As they fled, a security guard who was eating his lunch at the back of the pawnshop, responded and fired at the fleeing robbers, wounding one of them.
The robbers fired back but the guards were not hit.
The robbers however still managed to flee.
