EXPECT faster toll collection at the Skyway System starting January 26, the operator of the Skyway System said on Monday, as it completes a new runway toll plaza on the northbound section of the elevated Skyway, near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Airport on-ramp.
San Miguel Corp. President Ramon S. Ang said the new toll plaza, which consists of three lanes dedicated to the faster Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system and four cash lanes—with up to five tellers per lane—dedicated to cash payments, is designed to better handle increased traffic volume by facilitating faster toll collection.
”At Skyway, traffic volume is a reality we all have to contend with. But, for our part, we continue to look for ways to manage traffic better,” he said.
Ang added: “This new toll plaza is an enhancement to the Skyway that we initiated in order to facilitate more efficient toll collection. With dedicated ‘ETC’ lanes and ‘Cash’ lanes that can accommodate more tellers per lane, we’re hoping to improve traffic throughput at the toll plazas.”
With the operationalization of the new Runway Toll Plaza, toll collection on the elevated Skyway has been modified.
These modifications, according to Ang, would enable faster processing times. He acknowledged that the transition to a “slightly modified system might initially cause some delay and confusion.”
Ang, however, expressed optimism that motorists will “appreciate” the enhancement on the Skyway and quickly adopt the modified toll-collection system, so that its benefits will be felt by a greater number of people.
