VISAYAS rivals Ceres Negros and Global Cebu battle for the inaugural Philippines Football League (PFL) championship today at the Panaad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City.
The “Visayas Clasico” finale kicks off at 7 p.m. and is expected to go down the wire and become a fitting highlight to the first professional football league in the country.
Global Cebu and Ceres Negros proved that they still the two best clubs in the country—they same way they did in the defunct United Football League—as they ousted separate foes in the two-leg semifinals series last week and book tickets to the Asian Football Confederation Cup 2018.
The No. 4 seed Global is hoping to complete its Cinderella run by becoming the inaugural PFL champions.
The Cebu-based team made two amazing comeback in the two-leg semifinals—a 2-1 win in the first leg and a 1-1 draw in the second—to take down erstwhile leader Meralco with a 3-2 aggregate victory at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Ceres Negros, on the other hand, eliminated Kaya Makati with a 3-1 aggregate—winning the first leg, 1-0, through Stephan Schrock’s goal and escaped with a 2-1 triumph in the second leg behind Iain Ramsey.
