Losses continue to pile for Adamson University, but the Soaring Falcons are eager to hold on to their promising start in Season 81 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippine men’s basketball tournament.
The Soaring Falcons try to redeem lost ground when they battle the National University (NU) Bulldogs on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
After five straight wins that catapulted them instantly to the top of the standings, bad luck struck the Soaring Falcons and took two consecutive heartbreaks—the most recent a 78-79 overtime loss to the De La Salle Green Archers last Saturday.
The setbacks served as lessons for the team and Head Coach Franz Pumaren knows they have to get back on track as they gun for the share of the lead with the Ateneo Blue Eagles (6-2 won-lost) in the 4 p.m. game.
“We have to pick up the pieces,” Pumaren said.
The Soaring Falcons beat the Bulldogs (2-5), 63-58, in the first round, but NU is coming off a huge 88-61 trouncing of University of the East also last Saturday.
Mentor Jamike Jarin expects the Soaring Falcons will come prepared.
“The feeling is very good, but of course, you’re facing one of the best basketball teams in college right now and probably they have one of the best coaches in Franz Pumaren,” Jarin said.
In the first match at 2 p.m., De La Salle (4-3) clashes with the slumping UE (1-6).
