HOMEGROWN start-up firm Mober Technology Pte. (Mober) is expanding its operations in Cebu this month on the back of the growing demand for same-day delivery service in this market.
“We see the south as a natural progression to expand our operations. There are a lot of appliance centers in Cebu that would benefit in our platform,” said Dennis Ng, founder and CEO of Mober.
This on-demand transport-service platform was established in December 2015. Since then, it has changed the buying behavior of local consumers as they now enjoy a same-day delivery when shopping for bulky items.
“Mober wants to set the standard in delivery and logistics,” he said, noting the company’s offering of cargo-sharing, a new way for appliance centers to deliver on the same day the items bought by their clients right at their doorsteps.
A customer can choose from 12 to 3 p.m., 3 to 6 p.m., and 6 to 9 p.m. to have the appliance delivered.
Even if the van has one or multiple-delivery points, Mober’s delivery vehicle will be on standby and leave at the appointed departure time.
Given this, buyers need not have to wait the usual three days to four days for the arrival of their newly purchased items, Ng said.
“It’s all about customer experience that simply converts to improved sales. With our cargo-sharing alternative, customers have three windows [or schedules cited above] to choose from to enjoy same-day delivery. This results in faster movement of stock and happy buyers,” he added.
Price-wise, a single trip with Mober initially costs P750 for the first 5 kilometers. An additional P30 is charged per succeeding kilometer within Mega Manila and Metro Manila to outlying cities in Cavite and Bulacan. For cargo-sharing, the base rate goes down to P450, thus, giving more savings to the customer.
This approach beefs up Mober’s thrust to reduce the underutilized delivery vans on the road.
Based on its study, there were 15,000 L-300 vans alone in Metro Manila early last year.
With its smartphone app that allows users to book vans and make deliveries on demand, the technology firm’s delivery service could help ease traffic congestion. Mober vans are now readily available at selected SM Appliance Center outlets. The app can be downloaded at the Apple Store and Google Playstore.
