NORTHPORT tries to keep its flickering playoff hopes alive when it battles Rain or Shine in the Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The Batang Pier tallied two straight victories after a 0-6 start to sit precariously in ninth place, while the Elasto Painters are second to last in the standings with a 1-4 record.
They take the floor at 7 p.m., while Alaska (5-2) and winless Columbian Dyip (0-8) meet in the first game at 4:30 p.m.
Thanks to the combined 50-point explosion of Sean Anthony and Stanley Pringle, NorthPort scored a 99-94 win over Meralco last week for its second triumph in eight games.
Head Coach Pido Jarencio churned out encouraging words after finally drawing inspired efforts from his players.
“Players really worked hard for the win, defensively and offensively. I can’t say anything wrong about them,” Jarencio said.
Jarencio lauded Anthony and Pringle, who played major roles in their streak.
“They are the heart and soul of the team. They showed the chemistry,” he added.
After four failed tries, Rain or Shine tasted its first victory at the expense of Barangay Ginebra, 104-97, last Saturday.
Import Terrence Watson scored 29 points that went with 19 rebounds and four blocks for Rain or Shine, which also drew 18 points from Jewel Ponferada.
