RAPID urbanization has driven the growth of online hiring in the Philippines, according to the latest data released by Monster.com.
In a statement, Abhijeet Mukherjee CEO, Monster.com-Apac and Middle East, said this has led to a 12-percent growth in online hiring in April and 7 percent in May 2018.
The growth was led by the retail sector, which saw a 23-percent growth in online hiring in April and 33-percent growth in May.
“Modern retail in the Philippines is growing rapidly, driven by strong economic growth and increase in purchasing power. The total retail value of the country is projected to increase to around $94 billion by 2020,” Mukherjee said.
“The burgeoning retail landscape also reflects urbanization in the Philippines and changing consumer lifestyle with the government setting top priority initiatives to expand logistics and infrastructure development,” he added.
On a six-month basis, Monster.com said the retail sector also recorded the steepest growth among other industries.
However, the BPO/ITES sector once again reported the steepest contraction in annual hiring activity at 15 percent in April and 11 percent in May.
In terms of employment, Monster.com said Purchase/Logistics/Supply Chain professionals posted the highest online demand among occupation categories.
Data showed demand for Purchase/ Logistics/Supply Chain professionals at 32 percent in April and 27 percent in May. The job role has also been registering positive growth since October 2017.
Monster.com said demand for HR & Admin professionals continued to post double-digit growth since January 2018.
However, demand for Customer Service professionals witnessed the sharpest plunge and is the only job role to record negative growth, down 21 percent in April and 19 percent in May.
“The strong sentiment is also reflected in job roles—9 out of the 10 job roles monitored by the Index recorded positive annual growth in online demand,” Monster.com said.
The Monster Employment Index is a gauge of all online job posting activities in the country, recording the industries and occupations showing the highest and lowest growth in recruitment activity.
It is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity, based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career web sites and online job listings across Philippines.
While the Index does not reflect the trend of any one advertiser or source, it is an aggregate measure of the change in job listings across the industry.
