OFFICIALS of the Philippine Superliga (PSL) on Thursday bared that they will file qualified theft cases against former President Ramon Suzara and Finance Chief Donaldo Caringal.
PSL Vice President Dr. Ian Laurel, Director for Legal Affairs Melinda Diaz-Salcedo and Legal Counsel Atty. Miguel Llantino jointly said the complaint covers discretionary fund, travel expenses, allowances, cash advances and telephone bill reimbursements.
Laurel, however, refused to divulge how much money was involved but hinted it amounts to millions.
“We exhausted all efforts by giving them notices to attend the board meetings, especially when it came to those financial aspects and audit report,” Laurel said.
“But sad to say they did not cooperate, they did not attend the meetings and therefore we did not hear their side,” he added. “Now we’re left without any choice but to seek legal help.”
The PSL officials have sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation before formally filing the cases in court.
Suzara resigned as president in May, while Caringal stepped down in January. Ariel Paredes took over as finance head.
Suzara’s lawyer, Atty. Alan Macasaet, said they will answer the accusations in “a proper forum.”
“I welcome any investigation or inquiry regarding the malicious accusations thrown against me,” Suzara, through Macasaet, said. “Everything I did as president of PSL was aboveboard, transparent, properly recorded and with full knowledge of the board.”
University of the East-Cherrylume, meanwhile, beat Cocolife, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19, 21-25, 22-20, to steal ninth place in the consolation round of the Invitational Conference also on Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
