BEA TAN and Fiola Ceballos were hailed as Queen of Sands after dominating the Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) National Championship on Saturday at SM Sands By the Bay in Pasay City.
Tan and Fiola prevailed over Jennifer Cosas and Floremel Rodriguez in thrilling three sets, 21-19, 18-21, 15-7, in the finals to win title.
“I’m just happy that the event turned out really well and winning the whole BVR on Tour National Championship is a bonus,” sad Tan, who is one of the BVR founders. “I’m happy that my chemistry with Fiola worked during the games right now I don’t feel tired at all because we won.
“Masaya kasi natalo namin silang lahat kahit wala kaming training ni Bea masyado, buti maganda ‘yung chemistry namin kaya nakuha namin,” added Ceballos, who was a former teammate of Tan back in high school in Iloilo.
Tan and Ceballos dominated the three-day tourney, sweeping three teams in Pool C in Day One and beat Iloilo’s DM Demontanio and Jackie Estoquia in three sets, 21-12, 15-21, 15-9 in the quarterfinals on Friday. They also beat Caballejo and Abanto, 21-10, 21-11, in their semifinals duel on the same day.
Cosas and Rodriguez, on the other hand, prevailed over favorites Charo Soriano and Alexa Micek due to automatic win since Micek won’t able to continue the match in the third set due to concussion.
Micek accidentally bumped her head to advertising board after trying to save the ball in the first set. Micek was able to play in the second set and led Soriano to force a third set, but can’t continue the match and rushed to the hospital after the five-minute medical break.
