THE Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Philippines Dr. Gordon Kricke and his wife, Anke Mackrodt Kricke, received distinguished guests from politics, business, culture, as well as the diplomatic and consular corps, on October 3 to celebrate 28 years of German unity.
In his address, Kricke highlighted the shared experiences of Germany and the Philippines through peaceful revolutions. He then hailed the courage of their peoples who overcame political as well as social divisions, and fought for human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
The envoy also emphasized the role of European integration that led to German reunification. According to him, the foreign policy of his country is committed to the promotion of democracy, the rule of law and human rights, free trade and the defense of a rules-based international order.
He said Germany would continue to be a reliable partner on global issues and, important, a dependable partner of the Philippines in bilateral relations, which include trade, development cooperation and people-to-people exchange, among others.
With a delicious banquet of culinary treats, the guests were also treated to authentic “Oktoberfest” brew, as well as a variety of excellent wines from vineyards all over Germany. They also enjoyed musical highlights courtesy of up-and-coming young Filipino musicians.
