A few months ago, I was invited by my old friend Anthony Sotelo, a lifelong Human Resources practitioner, to become an independent director of his new company TWOGIE. Of course, my first question was what is TWOGIE? TWOGIE is the first professional online platform in the country that is exclusive to senior managers and executives. It directly links top-tier talents and preferred employers across various functions and industries.
The name TWOGIE had a more complex answer but it essentially is the second generation method of executive search. Having been in the corporate world for more than 35 years and on both sides—looking for new opportunities, as well as looking for executives, I could see the opportunities being presented by TWOGIE.
Previously, executives who were looking for more challenging and fulfilling roles had to take a more aggressive role in making it known that they were available. They would typically get in touch with their friends in industry and quietly let them know that they were open to new opportunities, send out their resumes to executive search firms, or do such an outstanding job that they would stand out and get pirated.
Likewise, companies that were looking to fill in critical managerial positions also had limited access to the talent pool available. They had to reach out to specific individuals who were personally referred by company insiders and associates. These companies also typically make use of the services of an executive search firm that would do a targeted approach in providing a short list of individuals in their data base that would fall within the parameters set by the company.
TWOGIE is a game changer. It has a data base of thousands of managers and executives that have individually been prescreened by TWOGIE HR Professionals for the completeness and accuracy of relevant data. This data base is then available to companies that subscribe to the TWOGIE service.
There are numerous advantages to both the executives that elect to be in the data base and the companies that subscribe to TWOGIE.
For the executives, they are not specifically applying for a position but merely providing their résumé like a registry. This information becomes widely available to the subscriber companies and it is not the executive search firm that decides on endorsing your resume but the companies themselves that determine that. The executive’s qualifications and experience would determine the fit with what companies are looking for. This system also allows companies to go “window shopping” for talent. Like when you go shopping, sometimes you are not looking for something specific, but when you see something you like, you go ahead and get it.
To be in the data base, individual membership is limited to senior-level managers and executives and must pass the three-step process of registration, competency evaluation and corporate fit assessment. Reputable local and foreign companies, including executive search firms, can subscribe to TWOGIE. TWOGIE is not for everyone, but it could be for you.
