TRAFFIC on the North Luzon Expressway (Nlex) is expected to rise by as much as a third during forthcoming November holidays next week.
Nlex Corp. President Rodrigo E. Franco said average daily vehicle entry at the thoroughfare to the North is expected to increase to as much as 172,000 vehicles next week.
“Normally, traffic is higher than the average by around 10 percent to 30 percent. Currently, average daily traffic on Nlex is at 140,000 vehicles,” Franco said.
Holidays for next week include the All Souls Day and All Saints Day.
The Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (MCTex) is a different story.
“We don’t expect a surge on [MCTex] because the traffic is different,” Franco said. “During the holidays, our customers are mostly commuters.”
On the peak hours of October 27, 28, 30, 31, and November 1, the Balintawak Toll Plaza will open 24 toll-collection points, while Mindanao Avenue and Tarlac toll plazas will open 10 and 16 toll-collection points, respectively.
By November 1 and 2, the Bocaue Toll Plaza will have 48 collection points in operation for southbound motorists. Mainline road works at the Nlex-Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway will be suspended beginning October 27, and will resume after the Asean Summit on November 16. At the MCTex, suspension of major road works will be from October 27 to November 2.
To note, the Toll Regulatory Board approved the supplemental toll adjustment for a portion of the Nlex.
The regulator approved the 25-centavo-per-kilometer increase for the Marilao to Santa Ines segment of the road, which was expanded in the first half.
