ECCO is a Danish shoe company that makes some of the most comfortable shoes in the world. Its line of golf shoes is extremely well regarded in the sport and are renowned for their comfort and durability. Ecco is so passionate about its products that it processes its leather in its own tanneries to ensure the highest quality materials for its products.
Its Cool and Cool Pro golf shoes are particularly relevant for us during the Philippines’s wet season. They are breathable and completely waterproof, owing to an inner layer of Gore-Tex. The Gore-Tex membrane is an extremely thin layer of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). It has over 9 billion pores per square inch. It’s these pores that give the Gore-Tex fabric its marvelous characteristics. The pores are so small that water cannot seep through. At the same time, the pores are large enough to allow air to circulate, thus allowing for an extremely waterproof shoe that allows your feet to breathe, assuring the comfort of the wearer.
Ecco builds its soles in a unique fashion. Some three decades ago Ecco created a process called Fluidform Technology. Fluidform is a technology that enables Ecco to create ergonomically advanced soles. By injecting a resilient, shock-absorbent material directly into the shoe mold, Ecco bonds the sole to the upper instantly and seamlessly, without the compromises common with glued or stitched assemblies. The result is a reliable and durable union between the upper and the sole unit, which offers a finely tuned balance of cushioning and rebound.
The Ecco Cool golf shoe features slim lock soft spikes on the outsole for maximum traction and stability in the most adverse conditions, while the Ecco Cool Pro features the Ecco Spyder-Grip performance traction system outsole which is optimized for on-course use by creating naturally placed pivot points that provide a strong foundation from backswing to follow-through.
At the onset of our rainy season, I picked up a pair of Ecco Cool shoes in the gorgeous white Dritton leather uppers. They are a gorgeous piece of work. They were put through a baptism of fire in two tournaments in the wettest conditions that I’ve played in all year. They performed flawlessly. They are incredibly comfortable shoes. Fresh out of the box, they feel like they are incredibly comfortable; there is no break-in period required.
Even when the weather was at its worst, my feet were dry. I’ve worn other waterproof shoes that don’t allow the level of breathability and comfort that are found here. My feet would get so hot during the round that I couldn’t wait to take the shoes off at the end of the round. There was none of that with the Ecco Cool golf shoe. I have nothing but praise for the way that they performed.
They say that your golf shoes are the most important bit of kit that you can buy. They are the only piece of equipment that you use every second that you are on the golf course. Their efficiency or lack of it can make a huge difference in your on-course experience. This is where Ecco shines. Yes, Ecco shoes are pricey, and the Ecco Cool and Cool Pro are some of the priciest shoes in the line, but they are worth the price of admission.
