‘DON’T underestimate what we can do in one year.”
Chinese metaphysics expert Iverson Lee said a lot of people doubt whether their lives can change significantly in just 12 months. He added others even think it takes decades for the tables to turn around.
He believes otherwise.
“A change in perspective can happen in one second,” Lee said, speaking before a small group of media members and bloggers at a conference room in Passion Restaurant in Maxims Hotel. “Think about when you say the words ‘I do.’ How long does it take you to say that? But your life changes after, doesn’t it—hopefully for the better. [Chuckles] When someone says ‘I quit,’ which also takes only a few seconds to say, it can change one’s destiny, as well. One year is very long.”
With the Year of the Earth Dog just right around the corner, Lee said that the next 12 months could be more than enough to welcome in positive changes in one’s life, especially by plotting preparations and strategies using the principles of Chinese metaphysics.
The study posits that all matter created is a form of energy. Looking into the pattern of energy that existed during one’s birth can be used for deeper discoveries regarding that person’s personality, innate talents and belief system. That information can then be used to determine how a particular person can approach life toward self-improvement and happiness.
One of the tools used in Chinese metaphysics is the Bazi chart. Using just the person’s exact time and date of birth to examine energy patterns, the chart reveals one’s “Guardian of Destiny” and “Animal Signs,” among other metaphysical factors. Reading the chart requires skills and knowledge. For example, if one’s Guardian of Destiny turns out to be the “Chief,” it means he is guided, generous and very kind, partly the reason it’s hard for them to say no. If one’s animal signs include a horse, ox or goat, it means he or she may be in store for a wealthy 2018.
“We are not fortune tellers; that’s outdated,” Lee said. “What we do here is destiny analysis.”
Lee is a master consultant and an instructor with the Malaysia-based Joey Yap Consulting Group (JYCG), a leading proponent of Chinese metaphysics that provides professional consultation services globally to both individuals and businesses. He said that their code is not about accepting what is already given to us, but how we can change it to become better.
Lee’s mentor, Dato Joey Yap, will conduct a feng shui and astrology seminar on February 7, 8:30 am, at Manila Marriott Hotel in Resorts World Manila to discuss Chinese metaphysics. Yap has authored 162 books, and is the founder of the Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics.
According to the JYCG web site, Yap grew up in Malaysia and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Australia. At the age of 15, he began self-studying classical feng shui and Chinese metaphysics with an intrinsic interest on abstract sciences and principles of the universe.
By 20, he was conducting feng shui consults all over Australia and went on to pursue that career. By 26, he became a self-made millionaire. By 36, he was conferred a datukship, the title bestowed to Malaysians who have made significant contributions to the country.
It was Yap who taught Lee Chinese metaphysics. Five years ago, Lee was a programmer, locked to a computer, writing code. He said that while he makes money off programming, it didn’t give him fulfillment. He discovered in his Bazi chart that he’d be more fulfilled by getting a career in speaking and teaching, which was how he found his place today.
“Once I followed the chart, I found my passion. It drove me to fly everywhere around the globe to share this information,” said Lee, who has been featured in several Malaysian television shows, delivered keynote addresses to a global audience and has been invited to speak for Fortune 500 companies worldwide.
According to Lee, they want to help people realize their inner talents, too. But what if one discovers his talents and, yet, the chart turns out unfavorable in other departments, such as luck?
Lee said there’s no reason to worry, because luck isn’t the be-all-and-end-all of the success equation. It’s just one of the five, including skills (“the reason one should invest in education,” he said), choices (“the kind of decision one makes”), strategy (“the timing behind those decisions”) and environment (“where and with whom one spends his time with”).
Even successful people refer to charts, Lee said, adding that they also use astrology and hire personal consultants to know the best approach in life. But while all of these help, Lee maintains that it’s still imperative for any person to take action.
“A lot of people tend to settle with happiness from the results, but they soon forget about everything, like New Year resolutions,” he said. “One must commit himself to act to get better outcomes.”

WITH a week left before Joey Yap’s feng shui and astrology seminar, and two more before we welcome the Year of the Earth Dog, Dato Yap has written exclusively for BusinessMirror his forecast summary for each of the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac. He wishes everyone a “Happy Chinese New Year and Gong Xi Fa Cai!”
The Rat (Years 2008, 1996, 1984, 1972, 1960, 1948, 1936)
GROWTH is what’s in store for Rats this 2018. “They strive to be ahead of the game, and this year, they could have a chance to progress in their personal development,” Yap says. It might be best to capitalize on an enhanced learning ability this year by enrolling in courses that would either teach new skills, or hone what’s already in the toolbox. The Year of the Earth Dog looks particularly bright for Rat academicians, scholars and students.
The Ox (Years 2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961, 1949, 1937)
GENERALLY known to be diligent, industrious and humble, the Ox could have a strong potential for wealth accumulation and career advancements this year. But Yap issues a caution: Practice moderation, and keep a healthy balance. “It is inadvisable for them to indulge in excessive spending or bragging, as it might taint any potential good luck.”
The Tiger (Years 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950, 1938)
GENERALLY, Tigers are fighters who will most likely fight for their right. Wealth and success in the professional sector could await them this year, but only if they make solid plans and sound strategies to achieve their goals. Yap adds: “Tigers would also need to constantly pay attention to details in order to accomplish tasks quickly and properly.”
The Rabbit (Years 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939)
RABBITS are usually sensitive individuals who strive to keep the peace between others, according to Yap. He says that in 2018, “they can probably expect to be surrounded by an abundance of support in their efforts.” This year could also be a good time to seek out mentors who can guide and teach to achieve greater success.
The Dragon (Years 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, 1940)
DRAGONS, who tend to be extremely charismatic, could be in for a tough year with challenges, changes and setbacks ahead. “They would need to strategize carefully and consider all possible scenarios before executing any plans,” Yap says. Countermeasures for worst-case scenarios should be at hand.
The Snake (Years 2013, 2001, 1989, 1977, 1965, 1953, 1941)
THINGS look bright in 2018 for Snakes. Yap says they can expect smooth progress, which could give them time to relax and enjoy the joyous atmosphere. This year could also be a good one for them to improve on their social and personal lives, as they are known to be generally calm, secretive and reserved. In any case, Yap says “it is fairly likely that Snakes will find themselves in a better position at the end of the year.
The Horse (Years 2014, 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954, 1942)
GENEROUS and supportive people could surround Horses this year, helping them in wealth or career opportunities. Generally known to be lively individuals who might try to do as much as they can in every given day, Horses might also have an edge in solving conflicts, which, according to Yap, makes it “likely that 2018 would be a smooth-sailing year for them.”
The Goat (Years 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967, 1955, 1943)
TYPICALLY gentle and cultured individuals, Goats are primed for a good 2018, filled with good tidings and positive events. According to Yap, they might encounter a few trials and tribulations, but it’s likely that none of them would be significant enough to cause much trouble. He adds that it’s also possible for Goats to meet individuals who could help or guide them.
The Monkey (Years 2016, 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968, 1956, 1944)
MOST Monkeys are bright individuals who are able to comfortably adapt to any situation. But Yap says it would take all of their skills to successfully navigate through the challenges that might occur this year—difficulties that could appear in both personal and professional lives. “As long as they remain determined,” Yaps says, “it is highly likely that Monkeys would be able to overcome any challenges in their path.”
The Rooster (Years 2017, 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969, 1957, 1945)
YAP describes Roosters as “honest and feisty individuals with untiring spirits.” However, this year could be a good one to change gears. “Slow down and take a breather, especially if last year was eventful for them.” Roosters could use the downtime to take better care of their well-being and find a healthy balance in life. Yap says that at the end of the year, they could emerge stronger physically and emotionally.
The Dog (Years 2018, 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970, 1958, 1946)
YAP uses words, such as “kind” and “caring” in describing most Dogs, as they usually try to put others before themselves. This Year of the Earth Dog, however, they might face several personal or professional problems. The key is to remain optimistic and confident. On the bright side, Yap says it is highly likely for Dogs to achieve their goals this year, which they have been working for a while.
The Boar (Years 2019, 2007, 1995, 1983, 1971, 1959, 1947)
JOVIAL, sunny and cheerful are most Boars, according to Yap. He said that it is highly possible for them to find success this 2018, as they might be able to effectively perform in any situation. Boars should not hesitate, he says, when accepting new opportunities to achieve their goals, but “they should also keep a clear mind to handle any unexpected difficulties encountered.”
