Thai PTT’s unit earns P2 million from SCTEx-Station toilet

PTT Philippines Corp. said on Tuesday it has raised P2 million from operations of its Restroom 20, a first class, air-conditioned toilet at its 2-hectare PTT SCTEx station, the firm’s largest service station in the Philippines.

At the grand opening of PTT Subic-Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx), PTT Philippines President and CEO Sukanya Seriyothin showcased the unique features of Restroom 20, a pay-toilet concept that originated from the firm’s parent PTT Public Co. Ltd. , Thailand’s largest oil and gas firm.

Restroom 20 has been designed to be luxurious but, at the same time, environment- and customer-friendly. It has a solar roof that could save energy of as much as 1.5-megawatt per month, according to Seriyothin.

“From our records, the amount of energy that we save on a monthly basis is ranging from almost 900 kilowatts per month to as high as 1.5-megawatts,” she said. “And that can be translated to about P100,000 savings per year.”

But more than its well-appointed features, PTT’s Restroom 20 also has a unique purpose, to give out to charity whatever fund it may raise from its operations.

Since it started operations, PTT Restroom 20 has already reached the P2-million mark collection and formally turned them over to several beneficiaries identified by the local and provincial governments of Tarlac, including the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The beneficiaries include New Concepcion Senior Citizens Consumers Cooperative, Concepcion Day Care Workers Federation, Community Volunteer Barangay Health Workers, Gawad Kalinga Amalia Village, Concepcion Tarlac Federation of Person with Disabilities, Concepcion Bahay Pagbabago, Concepcion Sports Complex, the Provincial Government of Tarlac and Department of Social Welfare Development Region 3.

The Restroom 20 at PTT SCTEx has been in operations since the gasoline station soft-opened two years ago. PTT currently has two Restroom 20s in the Philippines. The other one is at 1.5-hectare PTT Lucena in Quezon Province. Several non-governmental organizations and groups have already benefitted from the proceeds of the restroom in Quezon.

“Our customers deserve more than what we offer in our pump. We cannot just simply offer fuel to our customers in this highly competitive downstream industry,” Seriyothin said. “There must also be a good corporate citizenship, which we value in PTT.”

Apart from the gasoline station, PTT SCTEx currently houses several retail establishments. Soon, a row of restaurants and other service shops will open to provide more convenience to its customers. Lenie Lectura

PTT currently has 122 gasoline stations located in various parts of Luzon and Central Visayas. It also diversified recently in the country with the opening of Café Amazon, the most popular coffee chain in Thailand with over 2,000 stores.

During the event, PTT also signed contracts with some Café Amazon franchisees, marking the further expansion of the Thai-brand coffee shop in the Philippines.

Also, PTT is set to open its convenience store Jiffy in the country.
