Determined to address the country’s burgeoning garbage problem, Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu has vowed to intensify the campaign on solid waste management.
In a news statement issued on Thursday, Cimatu said all field offices of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will be directed to intensify the information campaign—with particular focus on children and youth.
Cimatu said he believes that public education and involvement can positively impact the environmental attitudes and behaviors of young people and increase their knowledge of proper solid waste management.
The difficulty of changing attitude toward trash, he added, lies in preventing people from littering or managing their waste—whether on the streets or in establishments or homes, and whether disposal units are available or visible.
