WITH the impending gas price hike, the infernal heat and the ignoramus acts of some government officials lately, I bet you rarely stop to think how important your smile is. This is good. We have enough troubles as it is. We can’t stop to think how important your smile is. Especially if all that you’re praying for is that God grant your wish to be a Victoria’s Secret model. OK, that would be my prayer but you get what I mean.
Nevertheless, it’s important that you have a good smile. Take it from actor Manolo Pedrosa.
Manolo is one of the young stars launched by ABS-CBN. He was discovered as a housemate in the last season of Pinoy Big Brother. At first, he seemed like the typical young chinito but when he smiled, girls and gays went wild! They instantly had a crush on this young boy and fantasized bringing him home to their moms, and never mind that they are older than Manolo’s mom.
And I have to admit, isa ako dun!
Anyway, although Manolo didn’t even make it to the Final Four of Pinoy Big Brother, that smile opened doors for him and he was given a chance to make his showbiz dreams come true. He’s had major outings in Maalaala Mo Kaya and Hawak Kamay, and recently in the top-rating morning show Oh My G!
But not all are charmed by Manolo’s smile. Some accuse him of being a ham. In a previous interview, he admitted that he has a lot to learn when it comes to acting. “Alam ko hindi po lahat matutuwa po sa ginagawa kong acting pero I make sure na lang po na I always give my best in every scene…and always try to learn more. Kasi ganun naman po dapat talaga. I promise to always try to be better.”
’Yun naman pala e! Manolo, just continue to have a happy disposition, improve on your craft, and be the best in everything you do. And most important, continue to smile, young boy, so that we, your fans, will always have a reason to smile along with you.

THE Dreamfields Music Festival is about to happen on May 30 at the Vista Concert Grounds, Vista City, Daang Hari, and I’m pretty excited about it. Heading the lineup is Robin Thicke, R&B singer behind the hit song “Blurred Lines.”
Of course, “Blurred Lines” is also that massive hit song which a US court recently adjudged as having infringed on Marvin Gaye’s song “Got To Give It Up,” with Robin and his collaborators T.I. and Pharrell Williams among the respondents. Until now, a lot of music experts are conflicted about this landmark decision saying that creative freedom will be stifled by this decision, but obviously life goes on for Robin who has been busy touring, probably trying to move on from all the professional and personal issues that have hounded him.
But say what you want to say about Robin and all the controversies about him—he is a great singer with a smooth voice. Besides “Blurred Lines,” Robin also has a number of hit songs, including “When I Get You Alone,” “Lost Without U,” “Sex Therapy” and “Wanna Love U Girl.” Anyway, for the nonmillennials who have no idea who he is, Robin Thicke is the son of actor Alan Thicke of Growing Pains fame.
Robin will be joined by the DJ duo Tritonal. The duo boasts of five No. 1 singles on the trance chart, all of which are featured in their debut album Piercing The Quiet. Tritonal also has notable collaborations with Steve Aoki, Nicky Romero, Tiesto and Armin Van Buren. Included in the Dreamfields Music Festival lineup are Pinoy acts Kjwan, Urbandub, Rivermaya, Franco, Marc Marasigan, Ron Poe and a whole lot more.
