Filipinos are among Asia’s top travelers, says Visa Inc. in a report, titled “Mapping the Future of Global Travel and Tourism in Asia Pacific.” The multinational financial services corporation also projects a 65-percent increase in international travel in the region in the coming years.
Increased online connectivity was seen as one of the factors that fueled this growth, which is why telecommunications giant Smart Communications was quick to tap the emerging global traveling class in its first-ever Travel Sale Fair. From October 12 to 14, the telecom company brought together major airlines, agencies and booking partners at the World Trade Center in Pasay to offer inexpensive travel deals to consumers.
“This is a huge celebration of the Filipinos’ growing passion for exploring the world and sharing all these memorable travel experiences with loved ones,” said Kat Luna-Abelarde, FVP and Group Head of International Roaming & Carrier Business for PLDT and Smart, during the event.
She added, “That’s why aside from giving the best airline promos and hotel discounts, the Smart World Travel Sale Fair also offers new and improved Smart data roaming products so you can enjoy more convenient and worry-free getaways in over 153 destinations.”
Smart’s suite of new data roaming products extend to the data-packed GigaRoam, which offers 1GB data roaming valid for five days for as low as P999; and Roam Lite, which offers light Web surfing and social-media apps access valid for 24 hours for as low as P150. Data packs are also available for social-media use and browsing, starting at P150, valid for 24 hours.
In addition, Smart customers can easily purchase and monitor their data roaming activities with Smart’s Data Roaming Manager, a one-stop portal that features all available data roaming products; it also keeps track of their data roaming usage. During the three-day fair, the company also introduced a pre-booking feature for its data roaming packages, which is a first in the country. This feature allows customers to conveniently buy their data roaming services ahead of their trip, so they won’t have to worry about staying connected to the Internet while abroad.
“When you say ‘roaming’ it’s associated with so many negative things—it’s expensive, it’s not seamless—and we wanted to change that. We want to take our travel products to the next level, and the way to do that is by improving our user experience,” said Abelarde.
