FORMER Sen. Leticia Ramos-Shahani passed away on Monday at the age of 87.
Shahani, the younger sister of former President Fidel V. Ramos, succumbed to cancer at the intensive care unit of Saint Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, where she was being treated, her daughter Lila said.
Her other children are Ranjit, former Pangasinan vice governor, congressman and board member, and another son, Chanda, a journalist.
Shahani was the widow of the late Indian statesman, professor and writer Rajee Shahani.
She served as senator for two terms, after a long stint in the Department of Foreign Affairs and in the United Nations.
She also served as foreign undersecretary.
Shahani was an ASNA awardee in Pangasinan for her contributions to the nation that made her provincemates proud.
ASNA is the highest award given by the province to outstanding Pangasinenses who made good in their professions and vocations.
The former senator was also an educator and a writer.
After retiring from the Senate, she went back to her home province and set up a modern farm in Barangay Tulong, Urdaneta City, where she pioneered dairy farming using local carabaos.
