FOLLOWING the success of its senior-high fairs in Metro Manila in March, Edukasyon.ph is bringing this event to other key cities this month to highlight education opportunities, such as schools or scholarships and even job vacancies available.
“As the first batch of senior-high students graduates next March, it is important they are equipped with informed choices on whether they are going to college, applying for work or starting their own business,” said Henry Motte-Muñoz, founder and CEO of Edukasyon.ph.
These events, he said, will empower around 500,000 students in Metro Manila and in other parts of the country by making higher education opportunities more accessible and reachable to them through the platform www.edukasyon.ph.
“Moreover, we want to widen the knowledge of the students on the real-life application of their chosen senior-high tracks,” he added.
Starting this August, the education fairs will be held around the country to provide a venue for students and parents to discover career pathways; inquire from senior-high schools, colleges or universities; and apply to these schools.
“It is important we give the students a chance to have a choice, as this would affect their future and our future as a developing country,” Motte-Muñoz said.
There will also be a plenary session for Grade 10 and Grade 12 students. The topic to be discussed to the Grade 10 students is the senior-high program, while the Grade 12 group would be focused on choosing the right college degree, getting hired in a job and starting a small business enterprise.
Citing the latest survey by the Department of Labor and Employment, he said the deficiency or lack of soft skills, such as interpersonal, social and communication skills is a major reason employers do not hire people.
“This is why part of the program in our education fairs is to enhance these soft skills and provide students a guide they can use during job interviews,” the Edukasyon.ph founder said.
The education fairs will be held in Parañaque on August 30 and 31; Pasay, September 4 and 5; Malabon, September 6 and 7; Makati, September 6 to 8; Pasig, October 2 to 4 and October 9 and 10; Taguig, October 5; Muntinlupa, November 8; Marikina, November 14 to 16 and November 21 to 23; and Navotas, November 17.
There will also be similar events in provincial areas, such as San Fernando, Pampanga, on August 18 and August 24; Laoag, August 24; Vigan, August 25; Taytay, Rizal, August 31, September 1 and September 8; Lipa, Batangas, September 7 and 8; Tuguegarao, September 16 and 17; Antipolo, September 16 and September 23; Calamba, Laguna, October 4 to 6; Urdaneta, Pangasinan, October 19 and 20; Baguio, October 25 to 27; and Binan, Laguna, November 28 to 30 and December 6 to 8.
“Learning from the challenges in our past, there is a need for all of us to provide a venue where students will be guided as they discover the right track fit for them and apply to the right school that would cater their needed education,” Motte-Muñoz said.
The series of education fairs are made possible with the help of ASUS Philippines, Jollibee, Netopia, Lazada.com.ph, Maynilad, Shopback, Jobstreet, Kalibrr and John Clements.
Local government units and Department of Education-School Division Offices are also working together with Edukasyon.ph to address the education needs of the students.
“Along with our partners from the private sector and government, we can bring students closer to the right educational opportunities and to scholarships as well. Our online platform is open to all students for free, and we believe this is a service that all students should have access to,” Motte-Muñoz added.
