Senate probers moved on Wednesday to detain another witness in the P6.8-billion seized shabu shipment after being cited in contempt “for lying” to members of the Blue Ribbon Committee conducting the drug-smuggling inquiry.
Sen. Richard J. Gordon, panel chairman, ordered the indefinite detention of Marina Signapan, who admitted to be the owner of SMYD Trading listed as consignee of the illegal drugs hidden in four magnetic lifters containing the estimated 1,000-kilogram shabu delivery.
Gordon told reporters after the hearing that Signapan will be detained until she purges herself of the reason for the contempt citation.
“I want her to tell the truth,” the Senate chief prober said, adding it was “very obvious” that Signapan and other witnesses were not telling the truth.
In the same hearing, Gordon also announced that the committee has directed the Philippine National Police to present dismissed Senior Supt. Eduardo Acierto, who is said to be handler of Jimmy Guban, alleged to be a Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service officer who was also cited for contempt earlier.
