There is a scene in Alvin Yapan’s Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa where Rocco Nacino, one of the two lead actors, expresses his love and longing for Paulo Avelino’s character through a dance. It is both beautiful and poignant because Nacino clearly understood his character’s inner turmoil, that of not being able to tell someone that you’ve been pining for him all this time.
That performance won a couple of acting awards but to the surprise and disappointment of many, it failed to gain even an Urian Best Actor nomination for Nacino. Nonetheless, it proved to everyone that Nacino had the acting mettle to match his attractive Pinoy looks and good conversational skills.
Seven years after his acclaimed turn in that movie, Nacino will be able to test his dancing prowess again in a concert, billed as Oh, Boy! & Oh, LOL!, on May 18 at the Music Museum.
Nacino and fellow GMA contract star Derrick Monasterio were part of the show’s first staging two years ago. This time around, they will be joined by two other Kapuso hunky recruits Jak Roberto and Dave Bornea. Oh, Boy! & Oh, LOL! is being marketed as a night of pure fun, wonderful music, surprise performances, and never-before-seen acts that will surely set the stage on fire.
Giving the male squad ample support are funny performance artists Super Teklah and Donita Nose, both tried, tested and trusted when it comes to premium stand-up comedy. The duo will make sure that the show will be a riot. Special guests and friends from show business will be adding glitter to this one-night-only show that Marvin Caldito is directing, produced by CCC Productions of future mega-producer Calvin Chua.
With almost a month to go before the show date, Nacino has been getting his voice ready and polishing his moves. He is also making sure that he is fit by catching enough sleep, taking vitamins and engaging in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, his favorite passion these days.
Dividing his time between his work as an actor and his jiu-jitsu training, Nacino shared that he is overseeing the building of his dream house in Antipolo. Construction will take two years to complete which accounts for Nacino’s renewed zest for work.
“Jiu-jitsu is what I do to destress. I took up the competitive sport more than 10 years ago. I’m already in the purple belt category and I look forward to getting a blackbelt someday.” Nacino has competed professionally and won gold in the 2017 International Jiu-jitsu Competition held in the Philippines. “Sports add magic to my already colorful life,” he added.
Outside of his showbiz commitments, Nacino has also set his sights on becoming a businessman. He owns a restaurant in Quezon City with his family, and he has also invested in another one at Bonifacio Global City.
On the romantic front, Nacino admitted he has found a new ladylove in professional volleyball player Melissa Gohing. The two share a passion for sports and fitness. They initially kept the relationship under the radar and only went public with it very recently.
Nacino said that he and Gohing are a perfect fit. “We motivate each other to work harder to be able to live comfortably and do the things we love most. She likes to tell stories while I love to listen.”
The couple are saving up for Machu Picchu, a popular attraction in Peru situated on a mountain ridge. “It’s our dream travel destination,” he shared. But Nacino said that the trip will have to wait for now.
If anything, one of the actor’s best traits is the gift of discernment. He knows what matters when it matters. And for the time being, it is this special show in May. He talks about it with feverish enthusiasm, hinting that it will be one visually amazing night of titillating performances. “ We will bare whatever we’ve been keeping inside for a long time and rock the Music Museum stage,” he promised.
We have high expectations then, Rocco Nacino. We know you’re a man who keep his word.
