NLEX targets its second consecutive win when it faces GlobalPort in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After three failed tries in the midseason conference, the Road Warriors found the antidote to the losing streak via a 120-115 overtime victory over the Phoenix Fuel Masters last week at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.
Now back in the groove, NLEX wants to start a streak against the GlobalPort (2-2) in their game that tips off at 7 p.m. In the 4:30 p.m. match, Magnolia (1-1) tackles Columbian Dyip (3-2).
Road Warriors Head Coach Yeng Guiao remains confident that their first win could jump-start an uprising in the conference
In the Philippine Cup, the squad had two early defeats but surprisingly made a push for its first-ever franchise semifinals appearance.
After their Batang Pier game, the teams will have a weeklong break for the PBA All-Star which will travel to different cities around the country.
“We will have a long break. Hopefully we can win again and just regroup during the All-Star break. We want to find some solutions to our problems in the team during that break,” Guiao said.
Leading the charge for NLEX are import Arnett Moultrie, veterans JR Quiñahan and Cyrus Baguio.
Helping them are Allex Mallari and Larry Fonacier, who took command in their overtime win against Phoenix.
GlobalPort aims to bounce back from an 87-92 loss to Magnolia last Saturday in Pampanga.
On tap for Batang Pier are Stanley Pringle, Sean Anthony, Mo Tautuaa and import Malcolm White.
