CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY —The partnership between SM Foundation and Makati Medical Center Foundation was further enhanced with the inauguration and turnover of the renovated Camp Evangelista Station Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City.
This is the second project of the partnership, following the Cavite Naval Hospital.
Camp Evangelista Station Hospital is a 100-bed capacity hospital that services the medical needs of about 18,000 individuals composed of uniformed personnel, their dependents and authorized civilians. It is categorized as a level 1 hospital and accredited by the Philippine Health Insurance Corp.
SM Foundation renovated and refurbished its Annex Building, now called the Heroes Recuperation Ward with a hashtag WHERE HEROES HEAL!! The Station Hospital is a 320-square-meter health facility divided into two sections: the first section is the Heroes’ Ward 1 and 2 and the Recovery Room, the second section holds the Heroes’ Infectious Ward 1 & 2, Isolation Room, TB-DOTS clinic and DOTS Microscopy Room. With the renovation, a new reception area and waiting lounge for soldiers were installed.
Present at the inauguration were Maj. Gen. Ronald C. Villanueva, AFP, commander of the $ID, Philippine Army; Lt.
Col. Jonna D. Dalaguit (MC) PA, commanding officer, CESH, $ID, PA; Dr. Victor L. Gisbert of Makati Medical Center Foundation; and SM Foundation Executive Director for Health and Medical Programs Connie Angeles.
Camp Evangelista Station Hospital played a significant role during the government
campaign against terrorists in Marawi City. A total of 2,053 wounded soldiers were treated in the hospital during the Marawi seige. In fact, the renovation was put off for about three months as the station hospital was full of wounded soldiers from Marawi prior to being referred to private hospitals in Cagayan de Oro like the Polymedic Plaza Hospital, Maria Reina Hospital and the Northern Mindanao Medical Hospital or airlifted to the Camp Panacan Station Hospital in Davao.
