Alarmed by the mounting road rage cases in the metropolis, the Quezon City Council has passed a resolution urging the QC Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) to organize seminars on road courtesy and anger management for drivers who are Quezon City residents.
City Resolution 7178-2017 introduced by Councilor Ramon P. Medalla seeks to provide the seminars for free. The exercise aims to prevent and reduce the number of road rage incidents involving both private and public vehicles.
“Metro Manila is a conglomeration of interconnected cities always confronted with slow mobility due to the worsening traffic situation. Based on studies, traffic congestion not only threatens a person’s physical health but also affects the mind as well,” the resolution said.
The measure also defined road rage as the aggressive, impulsive or violent behavior of a motorist caused by improper driving such as tailgating, constant swerving, speeding through red lights or overtaking dangerously.
“Of all the causes of road rage in the Philippines, aggressive driving and congested roads are the main reasons behind majority of the incidents,” the resolution said.
