Preparations for the 2019 Traslacion next week are now 85 percent complete according to Quiapo Church and government officials.
In a press conference on Friday, authorities said security and safety measures are already in place for the Manila-based celebration.
To help minimize traffic congestion during the annual religious event, the Manila City Hall suspended classes for both private and public schools on Jan. 9, 2019.
The Philippine National Police said it has yet to recieve reports of any threat related to the Traslacion 2019, but it noted it will still remain alert to ensure the security of the procession.
At least 2.5 million people are expected to attend this year’s Feast of the Black Nazarene.
