PLARIDEL, Bulacan—There is an ongoing tree-planting activity in this town, dubbed “Pagkakaisa para sa Kalikasan”, through the initiative of the True Life Ministry (TLM) located in Barangay Agnaya.
At least 1,000 mahoganies will be planted in different areas of the municipality to
avoid floods.
Volunteers planted recently over 100 mahogany trees at the Plaridel Public Cemetery; they will plant the remaining trees in different areas of the town. The youth, members of TLM and individuals from other organizations usually join the tree-planting activity.
Andy Discutido, the head pastor of TLM Plaridel, told the BusinessMirror in an interview that at least 300 to 500 mahogany trees will be planted in the municipality of Plaridel.
The planting activity will happen twice this year. Aside from this, the religious group will also donate at least 300 to 500 mahoganies to the local government unit of Plaridel.
Discutido said that, aside from Plaridel, they also plan to conduct next year a tree-planting activity in the city of Malolos. They also prepare at least 500 to 1,000 trees for the planting activity in Olongapo this year.
He said they choose to plant mahogany because it is a great absorbent of rain water.
Planting mahogany is a good way to prevent floods in the town of Plaridel and its residents can also use the body of the mahogany tree in building wooden houses.
