Pilmico Foods Corp. (Pilmico) said it is constructing a state-of-the-art research and development (R&D) facility in Mindanao “dedicated” to the improvement of livestock, poultry and aquaculture production.
The establishment of the facility would be undertaken by Pilmico, the food subsidiary of listed conglomerate Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc., and the Aboitiz Foundation.
Pilmico told the BusinessMirror that the facility would cost only P10 million to build.
“The livestock training complex will provide a venue for knowledge-sharing, research and development and innovation,” Jefferson Abian, Pilmico assistant vice president for Feeds-Sales in Mindanao, was quoted as saying in a statement. “A modern facility complete with the latest tools and technologies on swine genetics, animal nutrition, artificial insemination and farm management, which the whole community can benefit from.”
The facility, the company’s first-ever livestock-training complex, will house a training center, R&D hubs and laboratories, according to Pilmico.
The livestock training complex will be inside the Central Mindanao University (CMU) and is slated to be completed in August this year, Pilmico added. The company said CMU’s University Income Generation Program will manage the facility.
In her message addressed to CMU, Aboitiz Foundation First Vice President and COO Maribeth Marasigan said: “I imagine the livestock training complex to be a center of learning and growth in this area as I see our learners—which include the students, farmers and even specialists—as future innovators and drivers of positive change.”
