PAYMaya is going to be the latest addition team in the 2018 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference, which tentatively fires off on May 6.
Head Coach Roger Gorayeb and his PLDT squad, who won two titles in the 12th Shakey’s V-League, were supposed to make a return in this PVL season but the company decided to give way for PayMaya to become the team name.
“It’s a corporate decision to change our team’s name,” Gorayeb said, referring to the Manny V. Pangilinan Group of Cos.-owned mobile app as an alternative to a credit card.
“We will bring in the same team we announced in January, with few changes,” he added.
PayMaya will be bannered by the key players of Bali Pure, which settled for a silver medal in last year’s Reinforced Conference before winning the title in the Open Conference, like San Sebastian’s Grethcel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa and seasoned libero Lizlee Ann Pantone, as well as National University’s Jasmine Nabor, Aiko Urdas and Jorelle Singh, Far Eastern University’s Jerilli Malabanan and Angel Cayuna, who will all play after the University Athletic Association of the Philippines season.
Gorayeb also pins his hopes on Lady Stags Kath Villegas and Joyce Santa Rita, as well as Lady Tamaraws Czarina Carandang and Celine Domingo.
PayMaya is still looking for their imports.
“We’re still looking for the right imports to fit our lineup. Hopefully, we could give them a good fight,” Gorayeb said.
The newcomer will be taking on powerhouse Creamline, Pocari Sweat-Air Force, Perlas-BanKo and BaliPure, as well as fellow expansion teams Petro Gazz and Tacloban.
