SMARTPHONE maker Philippine Oppo Mobile Technology Inc. may break its record sale of flagship mobile phones this year, a company official said, noting this could help the company achieve its goal of increasing its market share by five points at most for 2018.
In a roundtable interview during the launch of Oppo’s new flagship smartphone, the F7, last Thursday, Oppo Vice President Garrick Hung said his group is gearing up to capture at most 20 percent of the market this year, citing the initial sales record of its new mobile phone as one of the drivers.
“Based on the data that we are seeing and our own analysis, we are growing. We are hoping that we will be able to continuously increase our market share in the Philippines. We will see another between 3-percent to 5-percent market share,” he said.
Internal data showed that the company holds about 15 percent of the smartphone market in the Philippines. It is currently the No. 2 smartphone brand in the country in terms of international brand after Samsung, the International Data Corp. said.
“The drivers for the said growth would be a combination of innovative products, rich marketing and after-market service,” Hung said.
The smartphone maker launched last Friday its newest flagship smartphone, the F7. The new phone sports a 6.23-inch super full-screen display, powered by a 25-megapixel front camera and its newest artificial intelligence-based personalized beauty technology.
F7 has two variants: the regular version that retails for P17,990 and the 128-gigabyte version that sells for P21,990.
“The number of preorders has surpassed our expectations and shows that the Oppo F7 is able to capture not just real beauty but also the hearts of our fellow Filipino selfie enthusiasts,” Oppo Philippines Public Relations Manager Eason de Guzman said.
Oppo received about 25,133 preordered F7 units as of last Friday.
“It could exceed our first-week sale of Oppo F5 of about 33,000 units. Given the figures of pressing, there’s a big chance that we will exceed that,” Hung added. “The new smartphone is accepted by the market because of its specs.”
