AIMED at bringing together both mainstream and independent artists in one venue, a gig was held at The B-side Collective in Makati City on September 7.
On the first leg of their 10-series bar tour, Filmville invited bands that have and were currently making noise in OPM: Urbandub, Autotellic, and Bennbunnyband.
Wacky as ever, Bennybunnyband never failed to make their “bunnies” (fans) sing along with their original songs, Dear Laarni and I’m Coming, while dressed up as a gang of “Droogs” in the film, Clockwork Orange.
Memphiis and Bandido also didn’t miss their chances to perform their original songs before their fans.
Meanwhile, the event also paved the way for the debut of WDDD, as it finally had the chance to announce the meaning of the letters of their band’s name: We Don’t Deserve Dogs!
United artists
ASIDE from bringing together both mainstream and independent genres in one setting, the event also showcased the unity of Filipino artists who contributed to the local music scene despite the industry’s “labels” on them.
Along with the artists who exert effort in writing songs, music productions also play a vital role in making sure that stages will never be empty for them.
That’s how Filmville helps the local music scene here in the country: by spearheading band gigs to help artists keep their passions flowing and allowing them to be heard by more people.
Chelsea Gloria, a member of Filmville, shared her insights on their contribution to the music scene: “Aside from initiating small bar gigs, [we are] very active in producing school tours and introducing our local artists to students in Metro Manila. We also partake in large-scale events and cater to thousands of people. And in these, we make sure OPM is our priority in what we showcase.”
Help for indies
BEING in the backstage of those gigs, Gloria herself has been very immersed on indie bands struggling to be in the limelight. Having that, she’s still somehow very optimistic on how the local music scene would be on the future.
“I personally think that we’re about to see and hear more emerging artists in the next few months. With the technology we have now and also with the help of social media, it will be easier to reach an audience.”
Gloria went on to say, “I think [engagements like this are] greatly helping indie artists make a name for themselves in the scene. I’m very excited actually. OPM is indeed entering another golden age.”
Come and sing along with Filmville and other Filipino artist in the local music scene as they embark on their journey to the new era of OPM for the new age.
