Dear Mayor,
I know you are busy that’s why I will make my letter short.
Late last year homeowner association officials said Don Diosdado Street, the main artery of Don Enrique Heights along Commonwealth Avenue, will be repaired.
Said street was still in good condition. But village officials calling themselves only as “Dehha Board,” said your office initiated the repair.
Who can question City Hall?
And, besides, City Hall has jurisdiction over our streets since our village developer transferred rights of infrastructure control to your office decades ago.
The repairs inconvenienced several residents, including Don Diosdado resident Mel Sison, whose water pipe got busted by careless workers.
But Mel and the rest of us took things in stride. If it’s for the betterment of the village, why complain?
It took months to complete work on Don Diosdado, which is not even 1,000 meters long. But to our pleasant surprise, it was not only road repair that was undertaken but also a new village gate was installed, as well.
Our Gate 1 along Commonwealth Avenue has also become high tech: It is now on RFID mode. Meaning, a vehicle can only enter the village, or exit from the village, if it has an RFID.
To those not in the know, the RFID (Radio Frequency ID) through its sensor, causes the gate bars to raise, similar to those seen at Slex/Skyway toll booths.
Each RFID costs P250, good for one year.
But our excitement/happiness was short-lived.
Only Dehha members are allowed to avail of the RFID.
Like several of my neighbors, I have ceased to be a village member for personal reasons.
Recently, I had entertained thoughts of rejoining the association. But when Dehha “officials” circulated a malicious missive, saying I have not been paying my dues “since 2006,” I balked; that got my goat. Village records show that I paid more than P25,000 in 2012 to cover all back accounts.
But never mind. I am not an association member anymore in simple obedience to a Supreme Court decision not making mandatory membership in a village group.
Now, the question, my dear Mayor: Did you also spend for the construction of the RFID-power Gate 1 of our village?
Tonyfrank Mendoza Causon is supposed to be close to you but it is not my habit to bother anyone, not even the son of my elder sister, to ask even the simplest of favors—like asking Tonifrank to ask you if you also spent for the construction of our new Gate 1.
Because if you did, why make us pay for the use of a public property for the common good? Please enlighten us.
Thank you and more power, Mayor.
P.S. Our Dehha Board sells RFIDs to nonresidents at P500 each provided such outsider can secure an endorsement from a resident. Isn’t that compromising the safety of our village as that would allow complete strangers free access to our community? Again, please advice, dear Mayor.
