Don’t count out the name Nora Aunor, or Ate Guy, in the movie roster this year. The superstar has got better plans ahead. Like Kris Aquino, she loves the entertainment industry so much that she can’t leave it behind.
In a phone conversation following a text to her on New Year’s Eve, Nora revealed what she’ll be up to in 2018. She said the buzz is true that the court favors the case she filed against a relative who allegedly grabbed hectares of land in Bicol that belonged to Nora. She texted, “Opo, Pit, totoo po ’yun. Maibabalik po sa akin lahat ng naibenta ni Saturnino Aunor, first cousin ko po. Happy New Year, Pit! Sorry na hindi kita nabati at ang mga mahal kong fans ng Merry Christmas.”
She stood her ground and rightfully claimed the vast tract of land bought for Nora by her mother Mamay Tunying during her heyday as the phenomenal superstar of Philippine entertainment. Although Nora had identified the principal conduits involved in this blood-affiliated, land-grabbing case, she begged not to name them anymore.
She apologized to her fans for a lackluster career and for some promises she failed to keep last year. She said that she has much better plans for 2018, which should more than delight her fans.
She didn’t say, however, if this is her long overdue throat operation in the United States, or the much-ballyhooed movie she would do with arch rival Vilma Santos under Star Cinema, thus leaving fans guessing and hoping even more.
Dating Daan Pastor Daniel Razon had initially sponsored Nora’s vocal-chord examination in Singapore and its counterpart therapy in Manila last year. He’s also answering the cost of the next full operation and travel expenses of Nora in the US when the operation happens. After what’s hoped to be the superstar’s successful procedure, Bro. Daniel is heart and hand ready to produce Nora’s comeback solo concert, which has been an insistent clamor among fans dying to hear again that golden voice that has built recording empires.
Her fans, popularly called Noranians, believe that the other plan Nora is toying with is a movie with Paolo Ballesteros, where she will be both the star and the director. And according to the multiawarded writer Ricky Lee, who penned not a few of Nora’s acclaimed film classics, including Himala, he and Nora will be talking about a solo movie.
Well, whatever Nora has in store for her fans, they will surely stand by her side no matter what, especially with regards to her wish for their family to be together again. With deep concern in the knowledge of Nora’s habitual home hopping, a group of elder fans have said, “How about building a permanent residential home in Bicol, where Ate Guy, her only son Ian de Leon and his family would stay and share together for good?”
This New Year, Nora has this heartwarming message to all her loyal fans: “We must thank God for another year that just passed. May you have the best of the coming year with your family, and a happy and prosperous New Year to all. I love you very much.”
By the way, Nora is proud of her protégée Edgar Allan Guzman’s win as Best Supporting Actor in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival for his tour de force as a flamboyant gay in Deadma Walking. Without boasting of her many international acting honors, she would like to see Deadma Walking, perhaps to find out what she hears about Edgar Allan deserving the Best Actor prize, instead. If Nora finds time, she’d also like to watch Ang Larawan, starring Joanna Ampil, this year’s best actress winner, and also an outstanding singer and theater actress…like the superstar.

Good luck Ate Guy. A movie with Vilma is unlikely to happen. From someone close to the actress, Vilma is not keen on doing a movie at this point as she is busy with her job and apparently there’s no such offer.
